A new version of Satellite Finder is available for Android in the Marketplace

Today a new version of Satellite Finder was sent to Apple for approval.

In this version you will find an updated list of satellites as well as new functionality that allows the lookup of detailed transponder information on the Lyngsat.com website.

Today I rejected the last submitted 1.2 build instead opting to include the following additional functionality in 1.2:

- Reworked Search. This now functions the same as Friends. You can also reply directly to displayed search results. No more losing old Tweets!
- Improved URL detection – now recognises urls which start with www. as well.
- Recognises hash tags, you will now be taken automatically to the search when you click on one in the tweet info page.
- Recognises @ for usernames and when clicked in the tweet info page takes you to the timeline for that user.
- Improved handling of HTML Entities
- Bugfix: Replies to tweets in a users timeline now function correctly
- Bugfix: with direct messages being encoded
- Bugfix: where new direct messages were not being shown
- Tweet info pane expanded to show all of the tweet

Tweesy 1.2 was submitted to apple this morning due to a bug when sending direct messages whereby the contents would be URL encoded.

Today I sent a new version of Tweesy and Satellite Finder for approval. These versions contain the following improvements:

Tweesy
- New low price 0.79€ FREE for a limited time!
- oAuth autentication mechanism now implemented. Your username and password will never be stored within this application.
- Twitter-API – The application now sends a “User-Agent” string to identify itself. This means the Twitter API will no longer restrict search traffic coming from this app.
- Data transfer is reduced. Instead of transferring a complete dataset only the newest tweets will be loaded. This functionality is available in friends, mentions and direct messages sections. Searching still downloads a complete dataset due to it´s dynamic nature.
- When you click on a result within a search list the selected Tweet in the users timeline will be scrolled automatically into view and briefly highlighted. However this will not function if the tweet is old and not shown on the users timeline.
- Limited search capability is available if you are unauthenticated.
- Instead of ‘Mentions’ in the tabbar and title, your screen name will now be shown instead.
- Bugfix – ‘Get Tweets’ can not be clicked whilst it is retrieving data anymore.
- New tweet count is now shown on the tab bar as ‘Badges’.

Satellite Finder
- Fixed problem with LNB-Skew calculation for Astra Satellites.
- Fixed spelling in German version.

oAuth is now implemented in the core of Tweesy. This offers better superior security for the end user as plaintext passwords will not be sent or stored in the application. I have attached a slideshow to demonstrate the oAuth application flow within Tweesy. There are still some translations and error handling to implement.

Further features which will be available in the next version:

A new version of Tweesy is currently in the works. In the next version will be a change with regards to the search API which was mentioned here:

In addition, work has started to implement oAuth in order to make Tweesy more secure. It has been announced that at some point in the future the Basic-Auth that is currently used, will be deprecated.
I intend to bundle both of these into the next release and will post here when I have sent it to Apple for approval.

The new version of the Satellite Finder (1.1) is now available on the iTunes Store. This version contains German localisation as well as being compiled and tested for the iPhone 3.0 OS.
